sunday six-pack

• Another week has come and gone, and it's not until I sit down to do these that I realize just how uneventful our life is! None the less, I'll start with the fact that no one in our house is sick anymore. My sinus infection is completely gone and D'Laney's runny nose is a lot less runny.


• She does, however, have a new tooth poking through and about 3 or 4 more that are right on its heals. This one is on top and I think was why she hasn't felt well the last few days. Teeth definately change her smile. It makes her look less like a newborn. I kind of miss those big gummy grins.


• Cameron was off yesterday and today. He works for 6 days and then is off for 2, and this week they just happened to fall on the weekend. It actually felt like a weekend for once. With his schedule, days and weeks kind of run together and we always feel out of whack. He has kind of kept D'Laney to himself, which has actually been really nice. And she is such a daddy's girl that she has just loved it. She's going to have a hard time tomorrow when he goes back to work.


• D'Laney has found the cabinets and figured out how to open them. I designated one cabinet just for her that has all plastic stuff, tupperware, plastic mixing bowls, etc. That way she can have one place in the kitchen where she can play and make noise, but it's not very loud noise. So far that's the only one she's gotten into, mostly because it's the most accessable to her.


• We went to a ranch rodeo in Bronte last night. I haven't been to one in years. They're much different than what comes to mind when you think rodeo. Events are all timed team events and include things that you'd actually do while working on a ranch, loading a calf on a trailer with just a horse and rope and no chute, tying one down to brand or doctor or something like that. Cameron's friends Matt Priddy and Chance Tatum were competing for Matt's family's ranch, and they did pretty good. I dont' think they won, but they did good.


• At the rodeo, we finally got D'Laney on a horse. We've been wanting to get out to our ranch to introduce her to horses since she was born, we just haven't had a chance to yet. Cameron rode her around a little on Chance's really gentle dun, and she loved it. I loved it too. I happen to think my husband is a very sexy man, and on a horse, oh my gosh...on a horse with his daughter? I could barely contain myself. That is one good looking cowboy!!

Where do I start?

I have the entire house to myself. Cameron's off today and took D'Laney so I could do some hardcore cleaning. I just can't seem to get some stuff done while it's just the two of us, and it doesn't really get any easier when Cameron gets home. So they loaded up and didn't tell me where they were going (although I'm pretty sure snuff will be picked up since he's been whining about it all morning.) So I'm all by my lonesome and I have no idea where to start in my long list of things I need to get done...I think I'll take a nap!

We have been talking about getting a new TV for a while. Our old one had a weird red spot in the top corner, but now's not really the time. I thought. Well, our DVD player finally bit the dust so we went to Best Buy to get a new one and Cameron found this TV. It was a fantastic deal, he's always wanted a big screen, and it's got the mirrors...blah blah blah. So I tell him it's up to him, I mean, it was a great deal, but do we really need it?Apparently. So we picked it up sunday afternoon and got it set up. I knew it was pretty big even on the wall of tv's in the store, but I had no idea just how big until it was in our little living room...it's 56 inches!! I didnt' know they came that big! But it is awesome, and we did get a fantastic price on it...I guess.

no six pack this week

Since it's already tuesday, and our entire week last week was spent at camp, I'm skipping my six pack this week.

Camp was great! Well, camp was hot and either D'Laney or I was sick almost the entire week, but other than that, it was great! D'Laney and I stayed at my MIL's in town, so we were able to get away from the heat. We swam one day in Nana's pool, but then D got sick. She woke up tuesday morning with a pretty high fever and just not feeling well. It peaked at 102.6 but I'm pretty sure it was a tooth coming in. It broke by tuesday night and never got above 99 on wed. but we didn't spend much time out at camp those 2 days. Then on friday, I came down with a terrible sinus infection. I have horrible allergies and the fact that it hasn't rained in months down there sure didn't help me any. Plus, all the buildings at the camp have that old moldy vap cooling, so I should have known I'd get sick. I stuck it out until saturday afternoon, but that's all I could take and we went home a day early. D'Laney is fine now, and I'm getting there, but it made for a short camp for us.

While we were out there, though, we got to spend time with a lot of family that we don't get to see very often. Cameron has two great aunts that are quite a pair. They argue like they're little kids and kept us in stitches all week. Cousin Amy got to stay with us at Barbara's and she and D'Laney got to be good friends. She's beginning to show and her little baby bump, well technically babies bump, is so cute...she carries pregnancy well. She was one of 4 preggos at camp, and one of 2 carrying twins, so next year there will be a lot of new little one's at camp. So far, the little grigsby boys will be way outnumbered by little girls, which they'll hate for about the next 15 years, then they'll love it!

Cameron's nephew Ryder was baptized Saturday night, about 3 hours after Cameron and I left. I'm so sad we missed it, but I'm so proud of him. Ryder is one of the most spiritual young men I've met, and I know he'll do great things in the church as he grows older and wiser. There were 17, I think, baptisms this year, so it was a great camp. I pray all these new christians are able to take the momentum from the week and take it into their home communities.

Well, that's a really long post and didnt' really say a whole lot, but since we missed so much of camp, there's not a whole lot to say. My camera died monday or tuesday, so I didn't even get many pictures, but I got a few.

Early Sunday Six-Pack

D'Laney and I are leaving for church camp in a couple hours, so I'm posting my six pack this morning:

• I unpacked our last box! Ok, not our very last box, we've still got cleaning stuff and mostly crap to throw away left, but all our clothes, towels, extra sheets, blankets, decorations... all that is done and put up! There are only a couple boxes left in the house, so it actually looks like home.
• My mom, sister, and sister-in-law-to-be came up from angelo friday morning. We spent the day shopping and just hung out for the rest of the evening. We love having company and entertaining, and now we've got the room for it. I have so much fun showing off our new house and giving a little bit of history on it. It probably bores whomever I'm talking to, but I still love it.
• This weekend is the Stanton Old Sorehead Trade Days. They've been setting up down town for it all week. My grandparents go to alot of these kinds of things, so they made the trip up yesterday as well. It was the first time they'd come to see our house. We didn't buy much, but there's another one in october that'll be great for christmas shopping.
• Cameron and I did a lot of yard work thursday while he was off. We were left with beautiful grass in our front yard, and just a little bit of watering got it really green and thick. We don't have any color from flowers, but it's too late into summer to really plant anything. Next year, though, I plan on having very colorful flowerbeds.
• Dustin and Amy's boys just keep getting good reports. Isn't the power of prayer amazing?! My cousin Jamie and his wife Lee Ann are also expecting a boy, and we got word yesterday morning that he was on his way. Lee Ann has been on bed rest the last few weeks and both she and the baby have been monitored very closely. Her due date was the 23rd, but sometime late last night, Tucker Lane Cauley made his grand entrance into this world. As far as we know, everything went well and both Tuck and Lee Ann are doing good!
• And finally, but definately most exciting, camp is just a few hours away! I'm so excited!! Since we don't have a camper or a cabin, we're staying at my mother-in-law's house. And dadgummit, she just happens to have a pool. It's really not fair, everyone else at camp will be miserably hot, but we'll be swimming the hottest times of day away. Even though this is Cameron's camp (he's only missed like 2 years his whole life) I feel just as much claim on it as he does. D'Laney will be the fourth generation on Cameron's side to attend the Pecos River Encampment, and I can't wait to get her there...we kind of like showing her off. It's a family camp, so ages 1 to 91 are there. So I better finish packing and get on the road! Have a blessed week!!

Scrapblog

I'm totally obsessed with scrapblog now. And the timing couldn't be better. For a while now I've been thinking of starting a little event planning business. I've done a lot of showers and birthday parties over the last 3 or 4 years and I love it. I'm always getting new ideas and have a notebook full of ideas for all kinds of parties. I've been thinking of putting together a little portfolio and really trying to get something started, but moving to a town where you don't know anyone or where anything is kinda limits you on what you can help people do. I think I'm going to put the portfolio together (thanks to scrapblog) and maybe do some business cards, and just see where it goes. I did a mock up of a card while D'Laney was napping earlier...what do you think? Of course the website doesn't exist yet, but it just looked like it need one, lol...

Sunday Six-Pack

• Well, it's only taken me about 2 hours, but I think I figured out how to make my blog a little more colorful. I wanted to do more, but I've only got so much patience.


• We made a flying trip to Austin wed. to watch Landon play baseball in the state tournament. They lost to the eventual champs, but it's an experience they'll never forget.


• We bought D'Laney a little pool, which she proceeded to fall out of and hit her head after about 2 minutes. I think she really liked it though, before she ate dirt.


• My husband, who is usually an intelligent fellow, was going golfing wed. while I went to Austin. He thought that, in order to avoid sunburning, sprayon self tanner would be better than sunscreen. He was right, he didn't burn, but his legs are 10 different shades of brown-orange that will take several weeks to fade away completely. The worst part, or best depending on if you're asking him or me, lol, is that it all ran down to his ankles and that's where the majority of the color is. I thought it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. He didn't.


• We finally have hot water!!! A week of lukewarm showers and boiling water to wash dishes was plenty for me.


• Cameron's nephew Orin turned 9 yesterday. When I met Cam, he was a baby at 4 years old, now he's going into the last couple years of elementary school. I can't believe how fast the last few years have flown by, and it kills me to think that I'll turn around and D'Laney will be 9 and I'll be looking for the years that I seemed to have missed go by.

The pilot light on our water heater has not been working so Cameron ordered a new part and went to put it in last night. He did everything he was supposed to do, turned off the gas, made D'Laney and I go upstairs so we wouldn't get any fumes that might not have left the line, had everything within reach so he could change them out quickly...the only thing he didn't do was turn off the water and let the tank drain. I was upstairs and heard him screaming my name. I was scared to death, thinking that the tank had fallen on him or he was hurt some other way. When I sprinted down to the little bathroom where the unit is, there was water everywhere. Lots and lots and lots of water. 40 gallons worth of water was on the floor, the ceiling, the walls, my husband...it was awful! We finally got the water turned off and to stop gushing and got the part changed out pretty quickly, but we had quite a mess to clean up, including ourselves. We were soaked. Everything cleaned up pretty well, the floors aren't ruined and I don't think any paint is going to buckle, but it made for an interesting evening. I think poor Cameron is going to be hoarse for days!

What a weekend!!

My friend Susan has this great thing on her blog where at the end of the week she posts her Friday Fave Five. She writes little notes about 5 good things that have happened over the week. I think it's a great idea, only I never feel like the week is over until sunday night. So I'm totally stealing her idea, only I'm going to do it on sundays and call it my sunday six-pack, cause I'm corny like that. So here is our first installment:

1. My cousin Landon is a junior at Grape Creek High School, and this past weekend his baseball team won the regional championship and are now headed to State!!! Almost the whole clan was in Brownwood for the games and Landon and the rest of the boys, including our cousin Jordan's BF Colton, who's family anyway, played great and run-ruled San Saba for the championship! Cadye and I both went to state when we were in school in track and basketball, and I can tell ya there is nothing like it. So congratulations, Landon and Colton, and good luck in Austin next week!!!!!

2. Because we were going to the games with my parents, D'Laney and I stayed at their house Saturday night while Cameron had to stay home and work this weekend. We're all adjusting to being so far away from each other. Since I lived with them until I got married and then only lived a few minutes away, the distance is hard on all of us, but we're learning to get used to it. My parents love having D'Laney there (I guess they still kind of like me!) and she is very attached to them as well. I love that my parents are young grandparents because they can still crawl around on the ground playing with her and run around with her when that time comes. They are doing pretty good so far about not letting her get away with too much, like eating the newspaper.

3. We visited Southgate for church sunday, although that sounds so weird since it's been my church home for over 24 years. But now we're just visitors. It was great getting to see everyone, though, and D'Laney did look especially pretty this week.

4. Cameron's cousin Dustin and his wife Amy are expecting twins in November and they found out that they are boys!!! Praise the Lord, we need more boys! There are lots of little girls in our extended family and close friends. As with any multiples pregnancy, the next few weeks are crucial and I'd like to ask you to pray for Dustin and Amy. These are two very lucky little boys...

5. Church camp is only 2 weeks away!! This is always a busy time of year getting ready for camp, and I'm ashamed to say that Cameron and I have not been able to help get the camp grounds ready. Lots of people work very hard to make this wonderful camp happen.

6. D'Laney has learned "touchdown!" When ever we say it, she'll put both hands above her head, then clap and squeal...so proud of herself. She even tries to say it sometimes, at least I think she does. And she's started raising one hand like she's in school...I'm not sure what she's doing, but it's still funny. I love watching her figuring out how to use her body and what she's capable of. She's fascinated with her hands again, only this time it's the noises she can make with them...clapping, shaking things, hitting the table, hitting momma... She's quite a character.

Well that's it, my sunday six pack for the last week of may. Our life is very boring, so most weeks I will really have to stretch to get six things, but I'm sure D'Laney will provide plenty of entertainment, she always does. Have a blessed week!!
